Major Project A100 – 16th Construction Phase – Berlin

Description

The 16th Construction Phase of the A100 motorway represents the largest and most technically complex transport infrastructure project in Berlin. The inner-city project comprises an approximately 3.2 km long, six-lane motorway section, executed almost entirely as a cut-and-cover trough structure, forming a continuous and highly complex engineering structure within a dense urban environment.

The project includes a wide range of demanding tunnel, bridge and civil engineering structures, all delivered under live urban traffic conditions:

Tunnel Structure

  • Grenzallee Tunnel
Road tunnel constructed using the cut-and-cover method, with a total length of 386 m, featuring a six-lane cross-section with three lanes per direction. The tunnel required sophisticated construction phasing, traffic management, groundwater control and extensive technical equipment for safe operation.

Bridge Structures

  • Ringbahn Bridge (RIN 01)
  • Sonnenallee Bridge – Mainline Railway
  • Sonnenallee Bridge – Tramway
  • Kiefholzstraße Bridge
  • Dieselstraße Bridge

Civil Engineering Structures & Infrastructure

  • Continuous trough and retaining wall structures
  • Noise protection systems
  • Road pavement including mastic asphalt and porous asphalt
  • Comprehensive drainage systems, including retention basins
  • Stormwater pumping stations (Grenzallee, Dieselstraße, Kiefholzstraße) including pump technology
  • Groundwater monitoring, service roads and gantry structures
  • Landscape and environmental mitigation measures (adjacent and remote)
  • Emergency stairways and perimeter fencing

Technical Systems

  • Traffic management and control systems
  • High-voltage and communication systems
  • Ventilation, HVAC and sanitary systems
  • Fire-fighting and lighting systems
  • Safety systems and barrier installations
