Westendbrücke, A100 – Berlin

Project Description

The Westend Bridge is a key structure on the A100 motorway (northbound) between the interchanges Kaiserdamm and Spandauer Damm. The original prestressed concrete bridge, built in 1963, was subjected for years to traffic volumes significantly beyond the assumptions made at the time of construction, leading to substantial structural deterioration. As refurbishment was not feasible due to the structural system, a replacement scheme was developed and the existing bridge was demolished in April 2025.

Following the closure of the affected A100 section since March 2025, the replacement bridge can now be constructed independently of live traffic in the same alignment, without requiring adjacent properties—enabling a notable reduction in construction duration. Delivery is planned largely in parallel with the Ringbahn Bridge replacement, aiming to restore traffic functionality on the currently closed motorway section as quickly as possible. Current execution is impacted by, among other factors, unexpected granite layers in the ground and demolition works on remaining elements (e.g., abutment structures), requiring enhanced coordination of programme, logistics and impact management.

Scope of Services

Schedule controlling including review and analysis of the contractor’s programme, preparation of a monthly schedule review report, and continuous maintenance and updating of the supervision programme with schedule comparisons, risk identification, forecasting and scenario analysis. Regular coordination through weekly schedule meetings with the contractor, including prioritisation and assignment of responsibilities, as well as input to project reports and decision-making documents.
